Goa Portuguesa completes 16 years

The place, which has now become a landmark of Mumbai, Goa Portuguesa , completes 16 years of its service to those who love good food, ambience, served differently by entrepreneurial couple, Dr. Suhas Awchat & Deepa Awchat.

Goa Portuguesa is distinctively the pioneering Mecca that introduced the authentic Goan and Portuguese Cuisine for the Mumbaikars to relish and the person responsible for this Dr. Suhas Awchat whose love of good, authentic food, is very serious about maintaining the highest standards in hygiene and quality. Dr. Suhas Awchat is very fortunate that he had aptitude and a life partner from Goa Master Chef Deepa winner of Maharashtra Gaurav award, who supports him whole-heartedly, in this venture supervises the menu and enjoys cooking.

Goan cuisine is an interesting mix of many cultures. Goa Portuguesa dishes out an array of authentic Goan spread. Its Cooks are "smuggled" (as Dr.Awchat puts it) out of Goa. The restaurant has more to offer than just food. The ambience, atmosphere and live music all adds up to the ultimate experience. And Awchat's Goa Portuguesa, the idea is to satiate all five sense, not just that of taste. This means that the meal there leaves you with a sense of well being, a relaxed state of mind, relieved of stress. There's a reason for this: Dr. Awchat is a doctor of psychiatry and he has used his expertise to create an experience that leaves the guest feeling good, especially the exotic food created by his Celebrity Chef wife Deepa an e-custom officer Intelligence officer

The atmosphere at Goa Portuguesa is refreshingly unique, the facade is created from The Viceroy Arch & gateway of Goa. A colorful rooster is precluded on the Arch & two Portuguese soldiers salute to welcome you. Next to it are domes & pinnacle from Mangeshi Temple.

The moment you step in you feel that you are in Goa, because the theme décor is very naturally designed by using stained glass painting on the roofs, mirrors with sea-waves & fishes painted on the borders to give a sea-side feeling, the arched window panes (typical of Portuguese Churches), colorful tablemats with a ‘Goan Soiree' cartoon painted by non other than the famous painter Mario Miranda (who is a close pal and valuable patron too!), the aroma of the Goan Cuisine, etc.

If you are a pure vegetarian, choose from its special 100% vegetarian menu prepared meticulously in a separate spotless all-steel kitchen and served in special different green crockery. It's the only restaurant where its owner a pure vegetarian, dines. For milder palates and bland food lovers there is an innovative, non-spicy menu that is highly appreciated by Indian and Foreign guests including International Celebrities.

Goa Portuguesa have been awarded H&FS Award for the “Best Indian Restaurant” beating 50 restaurants including stalwarts of the industry like Copper Chimney, Konkan Café of Taj, Khyber and Jewel of India. The New York Times gave a glorifying review of Goa Portuguesa mentioning it as a place to visit again & again. Goa Portuguesa has also won most prestigious “Outstanding Gourmet Restaurant” from International Tourism Council.

Goa Portuguesa celebrating it's 16th Anniversary, where the visited guest were Jackie Shroff, Mr. Dilip Piramal, Madhur Bhandarkar, Pooja Bedi, Rajat Kapoor, Tanaz Karim, Shiamak Davar, Ramesh Sippy, Anita Raj, Sonali Kulkarni, Anuradha Tondon host of celebrities, industrialist, political chiefs and people from the arts, theatre and culture are invited for the Hat-trick Award Wining Celebration at Goa Portuguesa. On this special occasion Udyogshree Dr. Suhas had also arranged for a beautiful flea market i.e. exhibition of handicraft things like wooden frames, paintings, decorative articles which was great attention to people visiting this place.

As always the part of the proceeds of the restaurants donated to “ Muktangan ” school for mentally challenged and drug rehabilitation center.

This time their restaurant Goa Portuguesa has won the H & FS “Best India Restaurant in against 50 other big names on the Indian restaurant scene. Congratulations to Executive Chef Deepa & Dr. Suhas Awchat !

Bombay Times - Hat-trick of awards for Goa Portuguesa

Goa Portuguesa, Mumbai’s popular restaurant, has won a hat-trick of awards this year. They first won the International recognition by The New York Times, this followed by The Best Indian Restaurant Award from H&FS and Tourism Dept. Govt. of India. The third award came on Tuesday, December 3, when the restaurant won “The Outstanding Gourmet Restaurant Award” in India by International Tourism Council.

Dr. Suhas Awchat MD and his wife Deepa, Executive Chef and CEO, Goa Portuguesa, have reaped the rewards of their passion, persistence, innovativeness, dedication and guest-satisfaction that they strived for in the last 14 years.

The hat-trick of awards is doubly sweet for the couple as it come on the 14th anniversary of their eatery (December 3). On Monday the beaming couple received the award at the Tulips star Hotel, from Anil Deshmukh, Hon. Minister for Food Drug Administration & Excise.

The restaurant dishes out authentic Goan and Portuguese Veg and Non-Veg Cuisine.
